How to Invest

Whether you are just establishing your new account with BlackRock, or would like to find out how you can make additional investments, or if you are curious about what types of service options are available to you on your account, this page should help educate you on the different forms and applications at BlackRock. You may notice that some forms may be used with both IRA accounts and non-IRA accounts, while other forms cannot (for example, rather than using a Systematic Withdrawal Form on an IRA account, you would use the IRA Distribution Form). This is due to the differences between IRA and non-IRA accounts, most notably the difference in how taxable transactions must be handled.

Step 1: Discuss your financial goals with your financial advisor to determine which investments and type of account you are best suited for. Your financial professional will help you to arrange a well-diversified portfolio of investments designed to meet your goals.

Step 2: Review and discuss which BlackRock mutual funds are best suited for your portfolio with your financial professional.

Step 3: Select the appropriate account application to open your BlackRock account. Click here to link to our forms and applications. If you do not see the form or application you need, please contact us at 1-800-441-7762.

Step 4: Complete your application, review it with your financial professional, and send your check (made payable to "BlackRock" or "BlackRock Funds") and application to us. Once we establish your account, we will send you a welcome letter and a confirmation statement detailing your account number and confirming your investments with us.
