Insurance Companies

BlackRock provides our insurance company partners—domiciled in Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Bermuda—with services that include portfolio management, strategic advice, asset/liability management, portfolio hedging and investment accounting. While BlackRock's technological capabilities are widely known, at the heart of our insurance practice are investment professionals committed to creating solutions customized to the needs of each client. BlackRock's interdisciplinary Financial Institutions Group is comprised of portfolio managers, client service officers, quantitative analysts, and accounting, credit, derivatives and tax experts focused on the insurance industry and related financial institutions.

BlackRock's investment process is structured to attempt to achieve each insurance client's specific objectives—such as pre-tax or after-tax total return or enhancement of income—with less volatility than the benchmark, be it a traditional index or a customized one that reflects the client's risk objectives/expectations, income orientation or liability cash flows. We also can accommodate requests from the investment and accounting areas of the insurance clients. Over the years, deliverables have included STAT/GAAP investment accounting services, asset/liability consulting, surplus duration calculations, peer group comparisons, income projections, scenario testing, rating agency and regulatory cash flow testing, meeting with rating agencies, analysis of non-BlackRock managed portfolios, asset allocation and tax-optimization advice. While this list is not exhaustive, it is indicative of our capabilities and commitment to assisting clients and their advisors/consultants in meeting objectives of both surplus/capital and earnings growth.
